Job Description:

We are looking for a hands-on Test & Validation (post silicon) Engineer to join our VLSI design group, focusing on Infrared Readout Integrated Circuits (IR ROICs).

This role sits at the intersection of circuit design, silicon validation, and system-level characterization. You will work closely with analog and mixed-signal designers to ensure testability is built into the design from early stages, and later take ownership of silicon bring-up, validation, and electro-optical characterization.

Responsibilities:

Define and drive DfT for analog/mixed-signal: observability, controllability, test modes, and measurement access
Contribute in design/layout reviews to ensure testability; define validation strategy pre–tape-out
Lead first silicon bring-up; execute block and full-chip validation; debug with design teams
Plan and run characterization across PVT and modes; analyze noise, linearity, DR; correlate sim ↔ silicon
Collaborate with Physics/System teams on electro-optical and radiometric performance of the hybridized ROIC
Build and maintain lab setups; develop automation (Python) for data acquisition and analysis; document methods/results
Perform failure analysis and debug issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Document test results, methodologies, and procedures for future reference.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in VLSI testing technologies and methodologies.

Qualifications:

Sc. in Electrical Engineering
5+ years in silicon validation / mixed-signal test / lab characterization
Proven experience owning silicon bring-up and leading debug to root cause
Understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuits (biasing, noise, signal chains)
Experience working closely with design teams (schematic/layout awareness, design reviews)
Hands-on expertise with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, SMUs, signal generators, data acquisition systems
Strong debug methodology under ambiguous conditions (first silicon, partial functionality)
Experience with test automation (Python or similar) for measurement and data analysis

Advantages:

Experience with image sensors / IR ROICs / detector-based systems
Familiarity with low-noise and precision measurement techniques
Experience in mixed-signal IC validation (ADC/DAC, analog front-end chains, bias systems)
Understanding of PVT characterization and variability effects
Exposure to electro-optical measurements and radiometric performance analysis
Familiarity with Cadence/Synopsys for design context

The Physics and Electro-Optics Group at SCD is looking for a Research Physicist reporting to Director of Physics and Electro-Optics.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Research Physicist will be part of the Physics R&D Group, working with a team of scientists on a variety of projects in Infrared Detector and Laser Diode technologies. The remit will include the development of modelling, in particular, of IR detectors at pixel level with semiconductor and optical simulations. The successful candidate is also expected to provide theoretical expertise and guidance to members of the Physics R&D Group.

Specific responsibilities will also include:

Accompany development projects with simulation and modelling support
Contribute to development of analytical solutions to complex problems
Collaborate actively with other disciplines and groups in the organization, providing feedback and support from a physics perspective
Closely cooperate with other physicists in the Physics Group
Conduct experimental measurements in a laboratory environment and characterize devices to improve agreement between simulation and experiment
Contribute to Physics Group strategy development
Adhere to high quality standards and attention to detail in reporting and presentation of results

Background requirements:

PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Optics / Optoelectronics or a related field in science and engineering
Very strong theoretical background and analytical skills
An MSc-qualified candidate with a relevant background, exceptional achievement and excellent track record may be considered
At least 3-5 years of relevant experience
Solid technical experience in at least three of the following fields:
Semiconductors, Solid State Physics, Electro-Optics, Optoelectronic Devices, Semiconductor Lasers, Device Simulation, Data Analysis.

Skillset Requirements:

Proficiency in Matlab is mandatory, Python an advantage
